IN THIS LESSON

Breath and movement are essential for clearing and amplifying energy. Both of these practices are grounded in physiology and neuroscience, influencing the body’s energy and emotional state.

Breathwork Techniques

Breathwork techniques like pranayama (yogic breathing), holotropic breathing, and diaphragmatic breathing are used to control the flow of energy in the body. Physiologically, breathwork has been shown to affect the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary functions like heart rate and digestion. By consciously controlling the breath, we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces stress and promotes relaxation.

Research in neurobiology has demonstrated that slow, deep breathing (as practiced in pranayama) activates the prefrontal cortex, which enhances cognitive function and emotional regulation. This can lead to more stable and harmonious vibrational states.

Somatic Movement

Somatic practices like ecstatic dance, shaking, and qigong help release tension and trauma stored in the body. The concept of somatic healing is rooted in body-based psychotherapy and trauma research, which suggests that trauma and emotional stress are stored in the body’s tissues.

Somatic movement helps release these stored emotions by stimulating the muscle spindle fibers and Golgi tendon organs, which are responsible for regulating tension in muscles. Movement can help free stuck energy and create a sense of emotional balance and physical vitality.
